Isobel is playing at her friend Elisabeth's beautiful store-bought dollhouse and cannot stop looking at the little gold plate hanging in its kitchen. So she slips it into her pocket and takes it home, where it turns out to be all wrong: too big for her own handmade dollhouse, and too gaudy beside it.
