A green maple wood pony with holes punched through its body and three colored cotton cords: white, red, and blue. A child threads the laces through the holes to decorate the pony with patterns: a mane, a saddle, a tail. Designed by Fredun Shapur for Naef, the Swiss maker known for building toys worth keeping. The laces are thick enough for small fingers to manage, and the pony is sturdy enough to outlast the lacing phase and become something else entirely.
