Before there was a home in Moominvalley, there was a dark forest to cross and Moominpappa to find. Moominmamma and little Moomintroll set out in search of him and a warm place to spend the winter, meeting unfamiliar creatures and a great flood along the way. First published in 1945, this is Tove Jansson’s very first Moomin story, illustrated throughout with her own drawings. It is a small, strange adventure held together by Moominmamma’s kindness and the hope of finding somewhere to belong.
